The check engine light is blinking and a light with a looks like a gear with a circle around it as well
Ford Mechanic: Pete, Auto Service Technician replied 7 months ago

The blinking check engine light indicates an engine misfire is detected with one or more cylinders misfiring needing located and corrected. The light with a gear circle can indicate a transmission fault detected.

What needs to be done from here is to have the fault codes read out/checked with a compatible scan tool plugged in that can read all computers in your vehicle.Once this is done any codes set then need diagnosed to then locate and repair this fault. There will be at least one code set that will need diagnosed to help locate and repair this issue here.

I suspect you may have a failing ignition coil needing replaced for the misfire as this was most common as well as a fault with a shift solenoid in the transmission or a fault with the valve body itself in the transmission causing this issue as these are most common.

The codes do need checked first though to locate and repair this fault. Most shops or a dealer can read out and diagnose as well as repair the fault here for a fee.A local parts store can usually read out codes at no charge to you but cannot diagnose the fault but can give you an idea of what is at fault.

If more help is needed, use the reply tab to continue our conversation. If no further assistance is needed, kindly rate my service, your 5 star rating is appreciated ( should be a link to click on here or above). You can rate at any time and we can continue to work on your question as this will not close out your question.Keep in mind in some cases it can be difficult to fully diagnose or help repair your vehicle without seeing it and I work on delivering the best possible answer from what I see to work with.

Thanks Pete
