I got a 1994 ford ranger 4.0 im working on its running rough and just smoking black smoke out running way to rich

I have replace mass air flow ssensor and idle air control valve coolant temp and new o2 sensors new tune up and coil pack and wires

That could point towards a faulty pcm and can cause the rich condition too. Need to check the wiring test mentioned at the bottom to confirm.

1. Check the voltage of the circuits at the Throttle Position (TP) sensor with the sensor plugged in. The Brown/White (BN/WH) wire should indicate a reading of 5.0 volts. The Grey/Red (GY/RD) wire should indicate a reading of less than 0.1 volts. The Grey/White (GY/WH) wire should indicate a reading of about 1.0 volt.

2. If the GY/RD wire shows high voltage, jumper it to ground through a jumper wire. Recheck the voltage reading of the other two circuits of the TP sensor and recheck scan tool communication to the PCM.

3. If grounding the circuit at the TP sensor results in proper operation and TP sensor voltage readings, check the GY/RD wire for a possible open circuit between the sensor and PCM pin 46. Address the circuit as needed.

4. If the GY/RD wire checks to be ok but there was high voltage on the wire noted at the TP sensor, it would suggest failure of the PCM. The PCM supplies ground to the sensors on this circuit. One way to address the PCM issue without the cost of PCM replacement would be to install a fuse holder with a 10 amp fuse between the GY/RD wire at the PCM and a Black/White (BK/WH) wire at PCM pin 40 or 60. This will re-establish the ground. If the GY/RD wire is intermittently shorting to a power circuit, the fuse will blow instead of damaging a replacement PCM.

The computer is trying to pull fuel out of the engine. Can you do a fuel pressure test and see how high the fuel pressure is going? Also see how long it takes the for fuel pressure to drop after you shut the engine off please.

18 to 20 at idle but when I gave it gas it went from 20 to 0 the first time n then it went from 25 to 5 n then level back out around 18 to 20 at idle

The vacuum dropping to 0 when you opened the throttle is normal. I do not believe that vacuum is a problem, from what you are saying it is acting normal. Lets see what the fuel pressure test shows us tomorrow.

Ok but after that first time it hitting zero when u throttle it the other 4 times it only went to 5 n 10 n went back down below 25 n the level out

that fuel injector I told u earlier when I unplugged it it doesn't effect the running at all

I suspect that that injector is leaking to much fuel into the cylinder.

That is not so good. That is less then half what it should be. It should have been 65-72 psi and it should have held for at least an hour. Do you have a noid light?

You need a noid light to check for injector pulse. A power probe will not do the trick. This is what I need you to do for me. Unplug the ignition coil so the coil can not fire any of the plugs. Turn the ignition switch on, and bump the starter a couple of times, not to turn the engie over, but to bump it like you where trying to set the timing and just needed the crank to turn a degree or two. This will get the injectors to fire a couple of times. Then pull the plugs out and see if any of them are wet.

If any of the plugs are soaked, we will need to test the injectors, but you will have to get a noid light to do so.
