Customer Question
2009 mustang battery drain...

2009 mustang battery drain when car is parked resulting in dead battery won't start, reason why??

Mechanic's Assistant: Did you test the battery with a voltmeter? And have you ever changed one before?

Battery is less than a year old replaced by the dealer

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Mustang yourself? What have you tried so far?

Disconnected negative cable and checked with test light for electrical draw, light lit up bright, was unable to record exact voltage reading however. Proceeded to remove the fuses and relays one at a time was unable to find circuit drawing current as the test light lit up every time

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

No frustrating problem though.

Hey how are you

I will try to help with this issue

The way you doing is good and you on right track by identifying the circuit drawing the battery down and we can go from there

now with these newer cars , you can not pull fuses and relays since it will wake up other modules and they can stay active up to 10 minutes

so using a voltmeter and measuring milli amp across the fuses is what we need so we are not disrupting anything and you would want to start your test after the key is out ,doors closed and been sitting for 10 minutes ,so all modules asleep and we are not getting false readings , that leaves the interior light coming on if you had draw on that circuit we know why since door open ,

lest start here and we go from there

1- Voltmeter
2- settings on voltmeter will be on milli amps.
3- go across all the fuses in the car and see which one is reading higher than 0.3 to 0.5 milli amps
4- the fuse drawing more than 0.5 miili amps ,will be the suspected circuit that needs inspection for the drainage.

Do yo you have a ford scanner or equivalent run scan on all car modules ,not just basic code reader ?

any issue with door lock system ,working intermittently ?

alarm going off randomly ?

lets start here and we go from there

Please let me know

Thank You
