It won't start. This...

It won't start. This is a chronic problem. A few different mechanics have looked at it. They don't find anything wrong. Once they disconnect and clean and reconnect the battery, it starts up.

Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked the battery, particularly the terminal connections? Are they corroded?

Not corroded.

Mechanic's Assistant: What is the model/year of your Ford?

1999 Ranger

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Ranger yourself? What have you tried so far?

Not corroded.

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

We've checked all the fuses. We followed a troubleshooting video about wd-40 on all the door locks and handles. We've followed another trouble shooting g entry about turning the ignition to the RUN position for 10 mins. Right now we've disconnected the battery and are letting it sit for a bit.

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 8 months ago
Once it starts, the theft light goes off, but it doesn't start or do anything else for that matter now.
Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 8 months ago

so its not even cranking?

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 8 months ago
If you have an idea other than the anti-theft, I'm all ears.
Customer reply replied 8 months ago
Nothing.
Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 8 months ago

if its doing nothing then its not anti theft. anti theft will still let the engine crank it just wont supply fuel

Now that we've reconnected the battery, it didn't turn over but it did do a little something.
Customer reply replied 8 months ago
I'm sorry, I don't understand your suggestion about the starter relay.
Customer reply replied 8 months ago
We found from the manual that fuses at positions 5&6 were labeled started relay. Is this what you're referring to?

the relay not the fuses.
