Hi Tom, Im David, thanks for visiting the site. Have the transmission scanned for fault codes. Transmission faults usually wont turn on the check engine light and have to be scanned with a scan tool that has the capability of interrogating the Transmission control section of the PCM.

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
I can run transmission code it's clear as well . I did read about bad torque converter causing this but I don't know . If you just leave it run in park it stalls sometimes too .
Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 6 months ago

Have you monitored the engine parameters and freeze framed them when thee stall happens?

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
Ok that is something I really am not sure of how to do . Are you familiar with snap on solus pro ? Maybe step me through it ?
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
I can get data display but not sure about freeze frame your talking about
Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 6 months ago

you can record the parameters for the data display and play it back to see what was happening at the time of stall.

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
Ok I'm at work right now I can run it after I get off and get back with you is that OK ? I may have to do research on how to do what your saying

Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 6 months ago

O2 bank 1 sensors 1 and 2
(mV) are from like 822 to 49
Bank 1 sensor 1 (mV) 811 to 47
Is that normal?
Fuel trims are long term 1. 7 to -1
Long term 2. 0 to -5
Short term 1. 8 to -6
Short term 2. 5 to -9
Maf gm/s stays around 5.5 at idle
Maf (V). Stays around .90 at idle
DPFE (V). Stays around 1.03 at idle
Idling around 660 RPM
IAC (%) around 24% at idle
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
Don't know if this helps without fault codes there is NO freeze frame data
Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 6 months ago

ok, let me look at this for a few

I know but someone has to know the answer just haven't found the one yet . It runs very good most of the time always starts right up . But will die all the time going down the road or sitting there idling . I've probably run it for 30 minutes and hasn't died once . I replaced ignition switch too
Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 6 months ago

well the 02's look good

I dont think I like the MAF readings.

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
Ok what should I be seeing ? Roughly ? It was replaced at a Ford dealership within about 8 months not saying it's 100% good . I don't have a scope to test it the right way but if there's any test I can do with multimeter or scan tool you want me to try I will do whatever I can just let me know .

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
Ok ran tests on MAF today
3 out of 4 tests were good grounds and 12v test
The 4th test signal wire I had
Key on engine off .07 volts
At idle 650 RPM .77 volts
At 1500 RPM 1.22 volts
At 2500 RPM 1.58 volts
Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 6 months ago

thats no good

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
Ok I will get a new one put on then see if my readings change . Where do you suggest buying a sensor from? NAPA or where is a good place? Or buy from Ford but like I said 6 to 8 months ago Ford replaced it $600 bill for me .
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
Ok will do
Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 6 months ago

ok

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
I have that MAF on the way . So my voltage should be higher than what I'm getting then? 1.4 volts at 1500 RPM and 1.8 at 2500 RPM that's what I'm shooting for correct?
Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 6 months ago

did you run through the entire test with a volt meter?

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
checking with scan tool hooked up . Scan tool and multimeter where very close . I don't have a scope to catch any glitches though but yes all readings I gave you were with multimeter
Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 6 months ago

ok, then its definitely not right

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
voltage should be higher then that?
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
It will take a few days for me to get new sensor . I'm just trying to figure out where I should be at . Because fuel trims are not that bad I don't think
Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 6 months ago

do you have 12 volts on the red wire?

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
12.20
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
I did ground test and circuit ground test to positive post on battery they were 12v plus a little 12.20 I believe
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
Using T pins in connector plugged into MAF sensor
Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 6 months ago

ok, what about the signal?

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
The signal wire is all the readings I gave you yesterday
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
That's why I'm asking if you have any parameters what the voltage should be if your saying it's not right like a flow chart or something for the MAF
Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 6 months ago

everythings a tad low. not by much but below what they should be. are the readings stable?

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
they are stable til idle drops down when it's about to die but that maybe normal lower idle = lower voltage
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
I can focus more on it running and trying to keep RPMs consistent
Scan tool is a little slow but without a scope it's going to be a little behind
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
see if there are any drop outs but don't know if I can catch it on scan tool
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
I don't understand why it's not throwing fault code as bad as it idles and stalls all the time
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
Either way I ordered the new MAF sensor and I will put it in as soon as I get it then I will give you readings hopefully they will change some
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
please don't close this chat like the other guy did
Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 6 months ago

Dont worry, I wont close it my friend

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
Can a torque converter cause this ? Even stalling at Idle?
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
I have read lots of bad things about them but normally shifting in reverse or drive . But this dies at idle as well
Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 6 months ago

you would have transmission codes.

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
it has to be engine problem then of some sort ?
Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 6 months ago

yes

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
Ok I will let you know when I get MAF sensor changed then we can move on if that doesn't fix it . If your still willing to help me .
Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 6 months ago

sure my friend. never give up....thats me

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
Is there any other sensors or voltage on anything else you need me to get ?
Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 6 months ago

no

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
Another question to you can the exhaust manifolds leaking cause engine to stall? Because there is a lot of noise from them
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
Haven't received MAF sensor yet hopefully today or tomorrow then I will put it in . Just thought I'd ask about exhaust manifold gaskets
Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 6 months ago

the exhaust manifolds leaking wont cause a stall, possibly a lacking of power.

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
Ok just thought I would ask . I'm trying to think of things not controlled by PCM since there are NO codes its baffling me
Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 6 months ago

the only component that sometimes doesnt throw a code is the crankshaft position sensor

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
I replaced it too . I can try to get some data on it tonight if you'd like while I'm waiting on MAF sensor to come . Camshaft position sensor I have NOT replaced yet
Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 6 months ago

ok, well Im going to open this p to the other techs to see what they think. good luck
