What causes a code P0198 in 2006 ford F150 with a 5.4liter

Customer Question

What causes a code P0198 in 2006 ford F150 with a 5.4liter engine?
JA: Just to clarify, what's the exact code? And have you tried to reset it?
Customer: p0198
JA: Are you fixing your F150 yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: yes and also have a peck like a collapsed lifter and a terribly rough idle that started all at once. but the only code set was the high oil temperature
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: one other friend mentioned that I could have a stuck VCT relay but no code was set for that

after we read the code we did reset it and it has not come back and does start better

That code is for the oil pressure switch. That code will not cause the check engine light to come on.Do you still have the tick and rough running still? How many miles on the vehicle?
Customer: replied 2 months ago.
that is the only code and the light comes on and when you clear it the engine is smoother for a little bit, then it is rough and want to die till it does, It has 106000 miles on it. Where is the oil temp switch located??
Expert:  Wolfgang replied 2 months ago.

the oil pressure switch is located on the oil filter housing . the back side

see pic for better idea of location!!

does the engine make alot of noise?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
I started it after I sent the VIN and it idled smooth for about 15 minutes like nothing was wrong then it started rattling like a diesel for 15 or 20 seconds and died
Customer: replied 2 months ago.
I did hear while it was running smooth a pronounced hiss from the passenger side wheel well so spent all the time trying to find a vacuum leak in any of the hoses on that side before it died

does the truck restart and run normal?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
very hard to restart when this happens with sound like extreme compression
Expert:  Wolfgang replied 2 months ago.

extreme compression means cranks very slow?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
I guess I described that a little off. more like firing too far BTDC that it kind of a pulsing crank over, but when cold it cranks over smooth.
Customer: replied 2 months ago.
could the cam timing be changing and causing the rattling and rough idle
Expert:  Wolfgang replied 2 months ago.
That is what I'm leaning on but an oil pressure test is needed to see the actual pressure when hot and the same with fuel pressure
