Customer Question

hi
JA: Hello. How can we help?
Customer: yes
JA: What is the make/model/year of your car?
Customer: 1999 f f 20 v 10 its actually a RV 1999 Holiday Rambler
JA: What year is your Rambler?
Customer: 1999
JA: Are you fixing your vehicle yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Im having issues with it shifting
JA: How old is the transmission? Have you noticed any leaking?
Customer: i originally thought it was tranny, but everyone diagnosing it says no we changed a bunch of parts... heres whats happening it goes 45 mph and when i press on gas to go into next gear to actually go fast... it feels like it shfts, but doesnt catch... and the motor or what seems like down near the pedal hisses we just changed the purge valve
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: ?
JA: What confuses you?
Customer: how much money do you need

are you there?
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
i really need help with this.. im ready to sell the truck for a loss
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
if someone can message back and show that they are here, i can explain more
Expert:  rpmdiag replied 4 months ago.

Please allow us a bit more time, super busy today:)

Here’s the sequence of events I follow:
Check fluid level and color. Make appropriate repairs.
Check shift solenoids with a scan tool in bidirectional mode if
applicable. Shift solenoids are inside the transmission and this is
the easiest way to check them.
Drop pan and inspect for excessive metal shavings inside pan.
Check valve body and clutches visually.
Hopefully you may not have to go this far, maybe you just were a
bit low on fluid.
Please understand that I don't know your skill level or tools you
have to assist us. Also understand that I can't see, smell, hear, or
touch the vehicle either, so your patience is appreciated. JA is a
great Q/A site, but it does not replace a repair shop. So please
don’t shoot the messenger if I have to deliver bad news:)
If you are satisfied with my answer, I would greatly appreciate a 5
star rating now and I will still assist you after you have rated me
too if another question pops up. I don’t get credit for helping you
until you rate me.
Thanks again, Ron

What i would like to do is this... I am very upset , its been months doing this....i would like to tell you exactly what i have done so far.I def think its a transmission problem.. but everyone diagnosing the truck wants me to put money in parts first before i think its the trannyHere is what she does.... When i drive,, she is fine until i go 45 mph.. then when i got to shift, the rpm goes up, and the tranny shifts, but, the rpms just keep going up and there is a loud hissing noise...the truck has a mind of its own, i swear.. sometimes i can let it sit for a week, take it for a drive, go 85 mph for like 10 min, then it will happen again
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
The Transmission fluid was red and clean and full,,, maybe like a half quart low.. i topped it off no problem....
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
we have only cleaned the mass air flow sensor.. maybe i need to replace this piece too???are you thinking tranny?
Expert:  rpmdiag replied 4 months ago.

I do think it sounds like a tranny issue, but don't put any money into parts until it's been confirmed by the proper technician.

All the testing can be done with a scan tool in less than one hour.

Thanks again and please remember to rate me 5 stars now and keep

well, when i pull the pan for the tranny, what tool do i need to test
Expert:  rpmdiag replied 4 months ago.

leave the pan alone, we do all the tests with the scan tool that plugs into the computer connector. it's the only way to check shift solenoids too.

Good, we still need to do the bidirectional tests and MODE 6 tests.

I'm ready to be rated 5 stars now for my time and be sure to keep this link in case you need more information after you have done these tests.

Last reply to rate, when you get the scan tool, the menu will prompt you for the different tests. They're all different.
