Customer Question
I just had the...

I just had the water pump and thermostat replaced as the water pump was leaking, so had the thermostat replaced as it was probably due for that. car runs fine as long as I am moving. Stop and sit with it running and the temp gauge goes from slightly below middle to almost hot. Once I start moving it goes back down. Could it be a faulty coolant Temp sensor?

Mechanic's Assistant: What part of the car is the leak coming from? And are you sure it's water?

YEs, Had it checked at a garage I trust and it was antifreeze. Nothing leaking now just the gauage showing hot when I am sitting with it idling

Mechanic's Assistant: What is the model/year of your Ford?

2004 Ford Escape XLT

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Escape yourself? What have you tried so far?

Haven't done anything myself with this problem of gauge going up to hot

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

NO, that is the only problem I am having.

Ford Mechanic: Tim Mohr, ASE MASTER TECH replied 1 year ago

ok, this is caused by the cooling fan not coming on, and it will overhest when idling or driving slow, have you checked to see if the cooling fan is running, when it starts to overheat?

Ford Mechanic: Tim Mohr, ASE MASTER TECH replied 1 year ago

it is very coomon for the fan motor to fail on these, and we do alot of them, are you fixing this yourself?

Possibly a fuse gone bad for the fan?
Customer reply replied 1 year ago
If the fuse is a possibility, I can check them and of they are good, will have it looked at Monday. Thanks
Ford Mechanic: Tim Mohr, ASE MASTER TECH replied 1 year ago

Yes, the power to the fan comes from fuse 8, if that fuse is good, and you have power at the green/purple wire at the fan, and a good ground on the black wire, then replace the fan assembly, we do alot of these,Tim
