My 2014 F-150 with backup camera screen in the mirror. The

Customer Question

my 2014 F-150 with backup camera screen in the mirror. The auto-dim for the mirror is not working.
JA: Is this an aftermarket camera, or did it come with the vehicle?
Customer: It came with the vehicle
JA: Are you fixing your F150 yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I haven't tried anything. I just bought it last week from Lamarque Ford used car lot, and have only been out after dark a few times and noticed that the dimmer doesn't seem to work.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: The mirror is very dark all the time, but it doesn't seem to effect lights from vehicles to the rear.

First make sure there is no dark window tint on the windshield causing the forward sensor to think it is night. Also make sure there are no stickers or decals on the back of the mirror or anything blocking the sensor on the back of the mirror. If none of this is present and the back up camera image shows up in the mirror, the mirror itself will need to be replaced.

There are no stickers, and the windshield only has the Ford tint at the top.

Make sure the wiring connector is fully seated on the back of the mirror. If it is, the problem is internal in the mirror and it will need to be replaced.
