I just bought a used 2006 6.0L diesel truck and drove it

Customer Question

I just bought a used 2006 6.0L diesel truck and drove it back to S.Calofornia. On the way back it developed a check engine light. I stopped at a Ford dealership on the way back to be sure I wasn't going to drive it into the ground. I replaced the fuel cap because I wasn't hearing the tell tale puff of air when I fueled it up. I still have the engine light. Does t need to be manually reset?
JA: Does the light stay on, or does it blink?
Customer: stays on.
JA: What is the model/year of your Ford?
Customer: 2006 F350 6.0L Super Duty
JA: Are you fixing your F350 yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I have tried nothing other than replacing the fuel cap with a factory part
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: The air filter is not stock, but the fuel light was not on until about 150 miles down the road.
