> driving home from work and 1994 ford ranger xlt died on

Customer Question

gt;Hi. driving home from work and 1994 ford ranger xlt died on me. I was going 65 then lost speed. I started shifting (manual) and giving gas but nothing happening. So I drove onto shoulder and turned everything off. I then turned key and everything working except engine won't turn???
JA: Is the car in "Park" or "Neutral?" Do you know if your car has a "wheel lock" feature?
Customer: in neutral - what do you mean wheel lock feature?
JA: Are you fixing your Ranger yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: no. I had a friend look at it this morning. he turned key and lights, radio, fan, heater, and all fuses good. He had some ideas maybe coil, spark plugs, fuel pump???
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: I just had my heater coil repaired, well about a month ago.

Do you hear the fuel pump come on for 2 seconds when the key is first turned on?

Does the engine turn over?

Do you know what the fuel pressure is?

Have you checked for spark at the plugs?

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
fuel pump? no clue. what's it suppose to sound like?
engine turn over? no -- lights, fan, heater, radio all come on no problem there.
Fuel pressure? is this on the dash board?
Spark plugs? no. looking at a video on where to locate them?
Sorry Jerry, you are talking to a beginner about all this. I am of no help.

No problem, that is why we're here. Do you know what the battery voltage is at? Did you try to jump start it?
