Customer Question

its a 2007 expedition el 4x4. When I am maintaining speed limit anywhere between 25 and 45 mph the truck chunks back and forth between gears it seems. I can even see a change in rpms on the high speeds and normal acceleration it shifts fine and rides fine
JA: How old is the transmission? Have you noticed any leaking?
Customer: 140k miles
JA: Are you fixing your Expedition EL yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: nothing . Just bought it friday
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: there are no codes or warning lights

Hello, my name is***** and thanks for your question.

It sounds like you have an ignition misfire. Spark plugs very common on these for misfires. I would have the spark plugs replaced and then reevaluate concern.

there are no check engine lights or computer codes showing that this would be the cause. The engine runs fine with no hesitation or rough idle or acceleration

OK then. Just fyi, these plugs rarely code or turn on engine lights. They also only break down and misfire under load. They never misfire at idle or on normal acceleration. They usually misfire the most when trying to maintain speed or on very light tip in acceleration without a downshift occurring (greatest engine load). Just my 2 cents, I replace 3-4 sets of spark plugs per week for this concern with this engine in the Expedition, F150 and Navigator.
