I have a 04 diesel. Was running good then got into it and it will not start. Turns over fine. Good fuel pressure, oil pressure, they changed out the FICM unit. They say they can get it to fire out with a gas rag. All of the checks the shop has done has checked out ok. Now they are giving up and wanting me to come and get it.

Hi Im David. do you know if they have checked it for codes? which hopefully they have...

I'm trying to remember it but that is why they changed out the FICM out.

I know he has disconnected each injector one at a time and tried to start it.
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
First he thought it was the fuel pump and started there. But it passed its test with plenty of pressure

The truck was running rough 2 days prior I was told to put sea foam in it. Which I do about every third tank. Suppose to keep all clean. The roughness went away and running good. It would do everything I asked from passing someone to just sitting and idling as a normal diesel.

and then just out of the blue decided it didnt want to start?

I drove it to work about 30 miles and stopped it. had a meeting to go to about an hour after I arrived. Tried to start it and it would just turn over and over. when I returned I tried to start it again (about 2 hours later) and it would only turn over and over and over. like it was not getting fuel.
I had it hauled to a shop. Here is what I was told so far that I can remember.
ICP 1486 -1500
M power 48v L power 11v V power 11v
80 psi fuel pressure
Electrically passed the Buzz Test
FICM sync OK
No air or air bubbles in fuel return line
Gas rag through tubo intake will run till fuel gone from rag
unplug sensors -max air flow, coolant fan, ect.... nothing.
ICP sensor defaults 1400 he though it should be 500 unplugged
ICP desired defaults 1400 he though it should be 500 unplugged
V ref is 5v

ok. let me look at something

Is there any smoke from exhaust, will it even try to fire?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Very little smoke if any. Yes it tries it fire at times.

Have you inspected the EGR valve, I suspect it is stuck open?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Have not seen one keep it from a no start. Checking it now.
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Let you know a sap on if the valve stuck open.

Okay, I have seen a no start condition with the valve stuck open many times.

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Valve is closed. Was ready clean. He has seen them carbon up. It was dark but no carbon build up.

do you know what the ICP pressure is climbing to when cranking it?

It almost sounds like a failed FICM, was it programmed when installed?

Another thing is FICM SYNC and SYNC both have to read YES when cranking it over.

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
on the IDS ramps up to 84% the wiggles around. FICM was program after installed
FICM SYNC ok Checking other SYNC monday

okay, let me know what you find, you may have a failed camshaft position sensor.

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Mechanic said have RPM, no codes also.

I am at a loss, with everything you have told me it should start. If the IPR is going up to 84% that is a sure sign there is a high pressure oil leak. What is the ICP pressure when you are cranking it?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
ICP is 1500

That should be enough to start and run. I see know reason without having hands on , that it wouldn't start.
