I just had my front and rear brakes serviced on my 2010 f150

Customer Question

I just had my front and rear brakes serviced on my 2010 f150 and this morning i have coolant leaking into passager side...any chance they hit a hose and didn't clamp it correctly...or any suggestions?
JA: How old are the hoses? And have you tested the actual mix of your coolant?
Customer: 5 years...i haven't tested the coolant
JA: Are you fixing your F150 yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: this just happened...we had a huge storm and only just noticed this morning. got truck back on friday
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: no...thanks!

Do you mean you have coolant leaking inside the cab on the passenger side floor?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
on pass side only...i can see the fog from running it as well
Expert:  Ray M. replied 9 months ago.

Unfortunately this means the heater core is leaking and needs to be replaced. Servicing the brakes would have caused no damage to this, it is just an unfortunate coincidence. to replace he heater core on your truck takes around 10hrs labor as the entire dash has to be removed.

if they had done an ac inpsection could they have damaged anything in the process...also with ford they often say its not the heater core but the hoses being incorrectly reattached?
Expert:  Ray M. replied 9 months ago.

Even if they did and AC inspection there isn't any way that the heater core could be damaged. The only thing is if they had the heater hoses off and lost the oring seals, then coolant could possibly spray into the heater case.

does the whole dash have to be removed for the heater core to be replaced?
Expert:  Ray M. replied 9 months ago.

Yes, to access the heater case to remove it and change the heater core the dash assembly has to be removed.

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
just the pass side or both driver and pass sides
Expert:  Ray M. replied 9 months ago.

The dash comes out as one piece.

oh? i know that you only have to remove the pass side when you replace the actuator for pass side dual ac...so you have to remove both when replacing this?
Expert:  Ray M. replied 9 months ago.

Yes, that is correct.
