Intermittent starting issue. Wont start for a while, leave

Customer Question

Intermittent starting issue. Wont start for a while, leave it alone or just keep turning it on and off and suddenly it starts. Battery is new, cables are good.
JA: Have you checked the battery, particularly the terminal connections? Are they corroded?
Customer: new battery, clean terminals
JA: What is the model/year of your Ford?
Customer: 2007 Escape, V6
JA: Are you fixing your Escape yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: checked cables and replaced the battery.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: That's it, very intermittent so it's hard to trace

What you are describing sounds like a concern with the security key system. Your key has a chip that sends out a signal to a device in the dash that then tells the computer that it's ok to start. If the chip in the key gets weak sometimes it takes a few minutes of waiting or a few tries of turning the key on and off to get it to pick up the signal.

Do you have a spare key you could try when it's acting up?
