Customer Question

blew front left tire on my 2001 windstar yesterday. After a tow and 4 new tires. The check charging system comes on and eventually I loose all electric. I have a new battery and new alternator.
JA: How old are the tires? And have they been a problem in the past?
Customer: brand new installed yesterday after blowout
JA: Are you fixing your Windstar yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I have fixed things on it before but I'm stumped. wondering if it is the computer after the tracking system engaged after tire blew.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: There just seems to be no power going back to the battery.

Hi there.

I don't see how the no-charging condition would be related to a tire blowing out. Was the charging system diagnosed before replacing alternator and battery?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Nope it was all working great
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
I'm wondering about the computer.
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
The no slip track system made a really loud noise before I came to a stop.
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
When I do a system check it says the charging system is ok but that message gets dimmer and dimmer as power to the dash leaks away
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Could it be a fuse?

I need to know the reason why the alternator and battery were replaced.

Do you have a voltmeter you can use to perform a few electrical tests under my guidance?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
The battery was very old it was replaced first. Then a year later the van just stopped running and the diagnosis I was needed a new alternator about a year ago. The electric doors were not working for a time. Recently everything was working great

I have a battery trickler in it now to charge battery back up
Expert:  Juan Crespo replied 10 months ago.

Well, we need to find out why the battery is not getting charged by the alternator. We can do that, but you'll need to use a voltmeter under my guidance. Do you have one handy?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Sorry no I am not that handy. I will probably need to find a ford service place tomorrow. Thanks though
