As an update to our conversation on the 2004 Ford Explorer

Customer Question

As an update to our conversation on the 2004 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer - we took it in and they could not figure it out unless they started to rewire things. I have attached their notes and wanted to include another couple of things we found out. We cannot turn fog lights off, they are always on and little fog light lamp indicator stays illuminated. If you pull out the knob, the car dies. If the lights are on and you put on windshield wipers, the car dies. When you turn on the windshield wipers, they work, but seem a little slow. We aren't sure if the fact that the car was in an accident and had a new bumper with fog lights and a new airbag, if a wire got pinched or wired incorrectly when the repair was made. Thank you for any advice.

Ok first question, is you purchased this vehicle used from a dealer as they are recommending going back there?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
We are stuck with the car as there was no warranty. We are hoping it could be an alternator issue and/or a problem with the repair of the front end/fog lights. A new bumper was put on after an accident last year. Maybe it was,not wired correctly.

That is a possibility, something is affecting the computer network if you were at a dealer and they couldnt communicate with the PCM/engine computer. If you had this at a dealer, they should have been able to tell you more such as if there was a network communcation failure with other modules or codes in the abs, etc. Did the charging system check out ok?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
That will be checked tomorrow. They couldn't get to it today.

Ok. Need to know more about the computer system and charging system operation first. Any wiring in the front area needs to be inspected if it was in an accident for sure. Check all routing, pinched harness. Proper ground connections to start.
