when i rev my engine and it winds down it back firing alitte bit and i smell gas
JA: Has the vehicle turned into a gas hog? And how does it start -- same as usual?
Customer: starts fine idles fine
JA: What is the model/year of your Ford?
Customer: 2003 v6
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: complete tune up new wires spark plugs new exhaust manifold.. compression test for the valves

i cleaned my aftermarket intake filter and cleaned throttle body

just take the undo the battery cables?

You can clear all codes by disconnecting the negative battery cable for a few minutes. Once you have done this, restart the engine and let see what code reset. Post back with those and we can work from there.

If you smelling gas then you either have a leak in the system or you have an EVAP system leak.

A back fire is in most cases caused by either a valve timing concern and or an engine misfire and yes if the engine is running to rich it could cause a backfire.
