Do you already have the cable clipped into the bracket on the column?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
was trying to seat ball first

Make sure the cable is disconnected from the transmission. You will have to connect it to the bracket on the column and then snap it onto the ball. Then go under the vehicle and connect it to the transmission bracket and then connect it to the lever on the transmission.

canot get the room under dash to snap back on

Then you will have to remove the lower dash trim panel below the steering column and then disconnect the shifter indicator cable from the steering column and lower the column down to access the cable. You do not have to take it all the way out. There are 4 retaining nuts holding the column to the dash once you remove the 4 retaining nuts holding the brace under the column. Just lower the column down enough to get the cable into place.

It looks as if there are 4 nuts holding brace under the column, once they are removed then the bracket removed there nuts on the same bolt appearing to hold the coulumn in place

Yes, you are correct. Take the back two nuts off and loosen the front two, the back of the column should slowly drop. Make sure to disconnect the shifter indicator cable from the shifter ever and unbolt it from the column or it will break. It is a plastic sleeve, either white of black.

you mean to remove all 4 bolts on bracket, remove bracket then remove back bolts and loosen front bolts exposed when bracket removed?
Expert:  A. Penland replied 1 year ago.

Yes, see below. Just use the instructions for reference, you do not have to remove the complete steering column.
