Customer Question

I have a diagnostic code P0401 and am wondering if the dealership is the only place I can take to fix it?
JA: Have you scanned the code? Have you tried to reset it?
Customer: I did using a OBD Scanner, not sure how to reset it...
JA: What is the model/year of your Ford?
Customer: 2004 Explorer (Limited.. not sure if that makes a difference)
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Just getting into it, would love to fix myself, but not sure how in depth the procedure is.
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: no
JA: OK. Got it. I'm sending you to a secure page on JustAnswer so you can place the $5 fully-refundable deposit now. While you're filling out that form, I'll tell the Ford Mechanic about your situation and then connect you two.

Is there a way to reset and see if it comes back up?
Expert:  Dan replied 1 year ago.

This most likely means the EGR valve has failed which is about a $200 job at a shop or $100 if you replace yourself. Here is a picture to help find part if you plan to do yourself. Let me know if you have more questions, thanks.

You can have codes reset at parts store for free but if problem was to stop then light would go off by itself.
