Customer Question

I have a 2003 Ford Ranger. High Beams went out. I replaced the dimmer/turn signal switch with a brand new one. It didn't resolve it. I replaced both head lights. Still didn't resolve it. Fuses seem fine although I am unsure of which one might be the right one.
JA: Have you checked the fuse? Have you checked for bad bulbs?
Customer: Yes and Yes. Which fuse should I look closely at? I checked with a tester and they all seemed fine, but I am unsure which one might be related to just high beams.
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Again: I replaced the turn signal/dimmer switch w a new one. Replaced both headlights.
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: Which Specific fuses should I be looking at? Is there arelay I should chack and where?
JA: OK. Got it. I'm sending you to a secure page on JustAnswer so you can place the $5 fully-refundable deposit now. While you're filling out that form, I'll tell the Ford Mechanic about your situation and then connect you two.

Check fuse 42 under the hood, this is for the high beams. See if it is blown.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
The fuses I checked are located in the engine compartment. Are there additional ones in the cab? Where would the HighBeam Fuse be?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
42! Ok I will check. What size is it?
Expert:  Scott W. replied 1 year ago.

fuse 38 is for low beam and fuse 42 is for high beam, they are both 10 amp fuses.

Is there a
relay somewhere related to the lights?
Expert:  Scott W. replied 1 year ago.

No relays, power comes from main headlight switch, through multi function switch, out to fuse panel under hood, then to the lights.
