I got a 2001 Taurus son . To pass inspection

Customer Question

hi ,
I got a 2001 Taurus for my son . To pass inspection in MD. I need to fix the gear selector cable .I pulled off some covers under the column and can see that the cable is severed.
Asking around I heard I have to pull the dashboard off to replace the part which costs 90 $ around here .Is this something I can do or am I better off letting a pro handle it?
Thanks !

Hi. SO this is a column shift and not a floor shifter unit?

To repair or replace the shifter indicator cable assembly, you will have to remove the instrument cluster. Below are the instructions for doing this.
