What are you trying to repair on your 2004 E350?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
The shift lever has become loose and I cannot get it into park or reverse. I identified the 2 loose torxque bolts in the linkage below the dash but cannot find a way to get to them. I removed the steering column shroud and ignition switch with no luck on access to the bolts. Is the only way from under the dash? There are several welded steel members, wire plugs, fuse blocks, etc. that I cannot get my hands around. Is there an easier way?

There are 4 nuts that hold the steering column to the dash from underneath the steering column. Below are the directions for removing the steering column and repairing the shifter tube assembly.
