1996 F-350. Previous owner removed smog pump when he changed

Customer Question

1996 F-350. Previous owner removed smog pump when he changed timing chain and water pump last spring. Engine was running rough at operating temp, worse under load. Changed plugs, wires, cap, rotor. Fixed dry rotted vaccum lines. Progressivly getting worse. Thinking bad catalytic convertor, but at a loss. The old plugs all looked perfect when I pulled them, light tan.

I have been a master mechanic for over 35 years and am happy to help you with this.

It is highly unlikely its running rough because of a bad cat converter because when they go bad its usually a major loss of power that is noticed and not a rough running condition like you have described.

Approx how many miles are on it please?
