Hi. The p0420 indicates that the bank 1 cat is no good. And the truck is probably sluggish because the cat is plugged up.

Expert:  EricFromCT replied 1 year ago.

If you want to verify this, you could lower your y-pipe down and drive it and see if it is not sluggish anymore.

I used a laser thermoter and got temps from both cats. The driver side cat was at 750 degrees and the passenger side was at 350. The driver side has been replaced before with a universal one. Are these normal temps?
Expert:  EricFromCT replied 1 year ago.

The drivers side is normal. The passenger side is low. The p0420, bank 1 is the passenger side.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
What would a low temp mean?
Expert:  EricFromCT replied 1 year ago.

The catylist is not getting hot enough to work correctly. If the cat is plugged the exhaust does not flow through and does not heat it up correctly.

Would you recommend a delete or replace?
Expert:  EricFromCT replied 1 year ago.

If you need to every go through an emissions test you will want to replace it. Other wise the check engine light will remain on.

I have a friend of a friend who has a software delete for the truck
Expert:  EricFromCT replied 1 year ago.

That will work then as well.

I thought that when a cat failed, it turned red?
Expert:  EricFromCT replied 1 year ago.

I have never heard of that.

Would you be willing to give me a call?
Expert:  EricFromCT replied 1 year ago.

I am set up for phone calls right now. That is a new service the website is starting to offer. What more questions do you have?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I drilled holes in the cat. Tons of more pep when I hit the gas
Expert:  EricFromCT replied 1 year ago.

Ok. It needs to be replaced. And you should be good to go.

Do you think the O2 sensor could cause this P0420 code?
Expert:  EricFromCT replied 1 year ago.
