Grinding front left hub....ewi holds pressure with vacuum pump and vacuum line is 20 @ idle. Even though I'm good on pressure could ewi still be shot

Yes it could be, if the vacuum is good and it still grinds we replace them both, since if one is bad, normally the other is about in the same shape. I couldn't begin to guess how many of these we have replaced just this winter.
