Customer Question

2001 Ford Expedition 4.6L temp sensor. I can't find it and would like to replace it. Where is it located ? Do you have a picture or exploded view of where it's at? Do I have to remove the manifold? Or do I need to remove the alternator to get to it? I need assistance on this. Also, I replaced the thermostat and its leaking antifreeze a bit. Are you supposed to use a compound of some sort or do I have to tighten it to a certain amount of torque? I over tightened the first one and cracked the cast iron valve and bent the thermostat.. Replaced them with new ones and therefore the leak

Hello, it is called the cylinder temperature sensor and is located on the back of the right cylinder head. No sealant is required when replacing the thermostat, just replace the oring that sits on top of the thermostat and make sure it is sitting flat on top of it.

  1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
  1. Remove the right front fender splash shield.
  1. Remove the dual converter Y-pipe.
  1. Remove the components in the order indicated in the following illustration and table.
  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
