I drive a 2011 Ford Focus (CVT transmission). I bought it

Customer Question

I drive a 2011 Ford Focus (CVT transmission). I bought it used one year ago with 52000 kms on it at the time. I'm at 87km today. The transmission has always been louder than most others, which I understand is normal. But today it is very loud. At low speeds, when I am accelerating, there is a sorta scraping sound, like metal on metal. I don't really hear it much once I'm at 70kms per hour.

Hello, being a cvt transmission, it is different from your conventional transmission with a set of chains and variators which control transmission speed and movement. If you have a noise coming from the transmission, and the fluid level is correct, not leaking from anywhere on the trans, it would be an internal issue on the trans which would probably lead to transmisison replacement. Unless it was still under a factory powertrain warranty where a ford dealer might rebuild the trans depending on the extent of damage inside making the noise
