Hello, when you turn the key to on does the red theft lamp blink quickly or does it come on steady and go out after a few seconds? Do you have more than one ignition key?
Ok does the radio appear to dim when you hold the key to the crank position? Are you getting battery voltage to the two starter wires, lage battery supply cable all the time and battery voltage to the solenoid on the starter when holding the key in the crank position? Will it crank if you jump the starter at these two wires?
Ok did it just not start one day and having this issue now or did it die driving or after a repair was done? You have no power going to the starter at all?
Standard or automatic transmission>?
Ok do you have power going to the starter? If you use a pocket screwdriver and jump across the battery lead and the solenoid lead will the starter crank the engine?
It should crank with off, and it will run if you leave the key to on, so the question is if you are getting a signal to the starter solenoid wire(smaller wire) from the ignition when turning to the crank position and that circuit operation depends on if it is a manual or automatic transmission
See if it will crank in park or neutral since its an automatic.
Depends if it popped a fuse, overheated a circuit, has a bad ground, number of things are possible or issue with the trans range sensor not reading park or neutral when trying to start. It wont crank in any other gear range but park or neutral
Ok do you have power to the starter relay you replaced, have it put in the right spot in the fuse box?
The starter does, make sure you are getting battery voltage to the solenoid smaller wire, they had issues with bad wire contacts to the solenoid.
Yes but a digital voltmeter be better. see if it has a voltage drop. here is a schematic of the circuit, verify you have battery power to the starter relay as well
Long as the theft lamp proves out you shouldnt have an issue with the ignition circuit. If it wont crank on its own its an issue with the starter circuit from the igntion switch to the trans range sensor, starter relay, or starter wiring
Right, that will only have power when you hold the key to the crank position.
That is fed from the starter relay in the wiring diagram
only when you turn the key to the crank position
no problem check circuit at starter relay
