I have a 2007 mustang. When moving a metallic whining sound

Customer Question

I have a 2007 mustang. When moving a metallic whining sound seems to be coming from under the car. It goes away when I stop the car. Auto trans. as the car warms up it gets louder, especially if I'm doing highway driving

Hi. A whining sound will usually come from a wheel bearing or the rear differential. But there could be something more simple like a heat shield that has fallen down or something loose that needs tightening.

You could also try putting the transmission in neutral while you are rolling to see if the noise changes or stays the same. This can help determine if it is a trans issue or more if a chassis concern. Also it would be a good idea to at least get under the vehicle and inspect for anything obvious that may be loose.

One more thing I would like to add, is if the brakes are getting low, the pads may be scraping on the rotors. These are all areas I would recommend checking first. Thanks. Let me know if you have more questions or what you find.
