engine sometimes will skip when I first crank it.Also transmission when I put it in drive will only run 5 miles an hour wont change until it warms up then changes fine.mostly in cold weather

Misfiring when cold is usually caused by either a fuel injector or glow plug or could be glow plug wiring melted inside the valve cover area. The slow throttle response when cold could be caused by an injection pressure regulator valve its not working right or could be the engine oil is just too low or the wrong viscosity.
