I have a 1989 Ford F-250 with a 7.3L IDI. I hear a noise

Customer Question

I have a 1989 Ford F-250 with a 7.3L IDI. I hear a noise that sounds like a out of balance flywheel as the noise increases with ROM. Also sounds a bit like what I would call a tap pit noise or a rod slap. Seems to be in back of left rear of the engine. The engine only has 43,000 miles..yup real. Where do I start?? Thanks in advance!!

Hello. My name is ***** ***** I will be helping you today.

The only thing that comes to mind is either rod or main bearings or even a worn cylinder wall letting the piston move around. Have you done a compression test yet? If not start there.
