Customer Question

I have a 2003 Ford Escape, 3.0 engine, Auto trans, 185K. Car has no power and won't get out of its own way. I am getting Codes P0304 and P0420. I have replaced the spark plugs and #4 coil pack. Engine runs smoother but still no power."

Hi. P0420 indicates that the bank 1 cat converter is most likely plugged. A plugged cat will cause lack of power for sure, and can also set the p0304. But the p0304 may be unrelated. You will want to verify that the bank 1 (right hand side of engine) cat is plugged with an exhaust backpressure test.
