Replacing cam phasers, chains and guides to eliminate loud

Customer Question

replacing cam phasers, chains and guides to eliminate loud noise on start up and idle on 04 5.4 liter w/ 135k miles. Is it worth it in your opinion to change our hydraulic lifters at the same time?

The lifters, actually known as tappets on these engines, collapse and cause the rocker arms, known as followers, fall off and cause miss fires. Inspect the follower bearings that ride on the camshafts and also check for any collapsed tappets. You will have to have the valve covers off, so checking them and replacing them is not a bad idea.
