My Taurus acts like it's not going to start after refueling

Customer Question

My Taurus acts like it's not going to start after refueling and acts like it's going to stall when idle. No lights or warnings on dash and it has only done it twice

Thank you for the VIN!

I've got to drive to Alabama tomorrow and I'm a little nervous
Expert:  AMEDEE replied 2 years ago.

I would start by checkiing for air or vacuum leaks under the hood. Just pop the hood and listen for a hissing sound indicating a vacuum leak. Check close by the intake manifold and air intake snorkle.

Another possible cause would be a bad or dirty throttle body

Checking now

Ok

No noticeable noises. My husband cleaned the throttle body last night
Expert:  AMEDEE replied 2 years ago.

Ok, good, then I would suspect a bad throttle body or possibly a PCM/ECM update.

Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Throttle body wasn't dirty last night
Expert:  AMEDEE replied 2 years ago.

Right, if it was, then cleaning it would have improved the stalling condition.

Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Canister purge valve had slight carbon build up. Even after he cleaned throttle body it still stalled on me today
Expert:  AMEDEE replied 2 years ago.

Right, I am saying that this could still be caused by a BAD throttle body

Is it safe to drive tomorrow until we can get fixed Saturday. 8 hours total drive time.
Expert:  AMEDEE replied 2 years ago.
My experience has been that if the throttle body is bad causing this stalling condition, this will only happen at idle.
If you feel comfortable with the engine stalling at idle, then yes, you can drive it. IF not, then no, I would not recommend driving it.
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Okay. Can I continue this conversation with you Saturday?
Expert:  AMEDEE replied 2 years ago.

YES, you may. However, I would appreciate a positive rating tonight.

Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Okay. Thank you

You are most welcome!
