Focus lx: I have a ford focus 2003 lx 2.3l, the car overheats

Customer Question

I have a ford focus 2003 lx 2.3l, the car overheats when idleing in my drive way then the fan kicks in and returns to normal until it does it again. When I am driving everything is normal. Could it be the low speed relay sensor?

Hello and thanks for using JustAnswer.I will try my best to help you with your question.
Your Focus should have 2 cooling fans mounted to the radiator. One is low speed and the other is high speed. It is acting like the cooling fans are not pulling enough air through the radiator at idle but when you are driving, air is being pushed through the radiator.

both fans kick in when it starts to overheat. Is it the low speed/idle relay?
Expert:  A. Penland replied 2 years ago.
Check the low speed cooling fan relay.
But give me the VIN# ***** I can get the proper diagram. Ford is showing 3 different diagrams and I want to make sure I get the correct one.

Your Focus has the 2.3L Duratec engine. I am only showing one cooling fan with that engine.
Do you have one cooling fan or two cooling fans?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
I have two cooling fans

Ok, check the low speed cooling fan relay. Also, turn the AC on and see if both cooling fans come on.
