It is checked through the standpipe on the drainplug on the bottom of the transmission pan. There is a small plug inside of the large plug. The small plug is removed while holding the large plug with a wrench. Proper full level is a very small steady stream with the engine running and the transmission at 100 degrees. Usually around 10 minutes of engine idling from a cold start will have the transmission very close to that temperature.Transmission id filled through that same hole also. Brilliant Ford design!
