I have a 2012 ford focus se when its in park it will not start but if I put it in neutral it will start what could be wrong

Hi. Assuming that the shift linkage is adjusted properly, then the likely culprit would be the transmission range sensor. It is what allows the vehicle to start in either park or neutral and tells the computer what position the transmission is in.
