Does the shifter move on the steering column or is it stuck in one position?

Ok. It is either inside the transmission or the shifter cable.
Under the hood n the drivers side near the air cleaner is where the shift cable attaches to the transmission. Pop the cable loose from the transmission at the eyelet on the end and see if the shifter moves, if it does not, the shift cable will have to be replaced. But if the shifter moves, then the problem is inside the transmission.

time to get another car thanks good bye

The shifter cable is not that expensive, maybe $75 to $100. The cable is the most common cause of this problem.
