Customer Question

I Have a 2005 Expadition with the 5.4 and just had the cam phasers replaced. Now it burned 3 qts of oil in 1,800 miles. Plus, when I restart it after it sits for more than 30 minutes it sounds as though the engine has just had an oil change, like the pump has lost its prime. Both of these issues are new since the cam phasers. Thoughts?

Hello, I'm Chris. Thanks for seeking us for help.
The oil loss is going to be from worn piston rings and cylinder walls or the PCV system is faulty. While running you need to remove the oil fill cap while running and see if there is a lot of air blowing out. You want to feel about the equivalent to blowing on some ones ear to tickle it, not any more like trying to blow a sheet of paper off a table.
Excessive air means there is internal engine damage. If the air flow is minimal, then check into the PCV system.
The engine startup noise, may be a issue with clogged oil ports in the heads that restricting oil flow to the variable cam timing components and lash adjusters resulting in them rattling until the pressure gets way up and flow is at max.
You want a excellent 5 star answer & I would like to be rated the same for providing it. Consider I don't know your skill level & I can't see, smell, hear, or touch the vehicle. It may take a few back and forth replies. Try your best to respond with good detail so I can do the same. I normally log in at 3pm and work late. A rating is required. Your rating me, what I type. I am not an employee of this website, nor have control over the fees or the time it took to get a response. If you rate negative or not at all you still paid, but I get nothing. I want you pleased with me and my efforts, so let me know if your experience here has come up short.
Thanks Chris
