Its blinking like normal, not rapidly

Do you have a test light to check for power at the small wire on the starter?

Yes, but went outside and tried to start again, smoke started to come from starter

Then you want to replace the starter. If the new starter struggles then you will need to check the positive battery cable. Corrosion near the battery end, under the loom, can cause a voltage drop to starter not giving it full juice.
