Hello. My name is ***** ***** I will be helping you today.
To check the ball joints jack it up under the lower control arm to where the tire is about an inch or two off of the ground then get a pry bar between the ground and tire and pry up and down on the tire while someone watches the ball joints. If one is bad you will be able to see the movement in it.
That price is steep. The whole control arm needs replaced and list price from a dealer is 143 on the part and 1 hour on labor on a 2wd and 1.6 hours on a 4wd. Even with an alignment (which is optional) it shouldnt be over 400 even on a 4wd.
