Below is my first answer. If you do not understand it, or you need more information from me, or need me to go in more detail. Do not rate yet, just reply. Put yourself in my shoes, I can not see, smell, hear, feel or touch your car, nor do I know any history on it. So take into consideration I am doing my best based on what you tell me. Also understand fixing cars often requires sophisticated tools, that you may not own. So even if you can not do what is outlined in my answer, that does not mean my answer is wrong deserving to be rated negative.

This is my only income and I try to be online 365 days a year from 3pm till 1am. I do not work for Just Answer. I work through them for each customer. I only earn a paycheck when a customer rates me Ok, Good, Excellent. If I have not addressed your original question to your liking yet, I hope you will reply and continue working with me, since your charged the full question value, regardless if you rate negative or not at all. If you rate me now, do not worry, you can still reply later to me.

Thanks for letting me try to help you, Chris also known as Moose

Thanks you have a 5R55S. Ford the slipping 2nd gear, the transmission needs to be removed. The overdrive band and servo replaced and the servo bore reamed out and sleeved with a bushing. For reverse slipping that is going to be a weak servo seal for the low reverse band. If first gear is also slipping then the low reverse servo and band can be to blame for all 3 gears meaning the overdrive band and servo are fine.

OK I don't think first is slipping, but it could be. Would having the bands adjusted help at all? Or adjustment and flush?

Only the intermediate and overdrive bands can be adjusted, the low reverse band can not. Adjusting those 2 bands will not hurt but I give it about 5% likely to fix the issues.

Would a flush help along with the adjustment?

Servicing the fluid every 30k is a good task, but its not going to solve this issue.

I rated your 1st response only, I did not realize there would be more. The reverse seems to work fine when I'm on level ground, but if the Explorer is not level form fount to back reverse slips. I'm trying to get the oil level checked someplace, because I think when they did the oil change they did not fill it-reverse was working fine until then.

Keep in touch if needed.
