2007 Ford: key is stuck in the ignition.

This answer was rated:

2007 Ford Fusion - My son's car. The key is stuck in the ignition. This is the second time it has happened. Is there a way to fix it without taking it to dealership?
Hi,

does the key turn all the way to the off position to remove but not come out, or is it stuck in the on or accessories position?

Hi,

Ok, have your son use a hammer and GENTLY tap the key and ignition lock cylinder with it as he pulls out on the key.

this will get the key out, but it will still need a repair to keep from happening over and over. The ignition lock cylinder tumblers are failing and causing the key to get stuck. It will need to be replaced. any shop can do this, as well as a locksmith.

Tapping with the hammer did not get the key out
Hi,

Ok, try spraying some wd40 past the key into the lock cylinder and then tap with hammer. If it still doesnt come out, then unfortunately you will need to have the lock cylinder replaced immediately
