1986 f150: carb..automatic and electric assit choke

Resolved Question:

have 1986 f150 with 300 straight 6 . has carter yha one barrell carb with automatic and electric assit choke . switching to an old fashion manual choke. anything else i need to do other than just disconecting the auto choke hosing and swaping out with manual choke. like plugging vacume line or lines or anything like that

Nothing has to be done with any vacuum lines. Just remove the choke thermostat/housing. One thing you will have to remember is that when starting it cold, and you pull the choke to set it, it will slam it all the way closed and once it starts you will have to push the cable in just a little so the choke plate opens just a little so it doesnt load up and stall out. Then of course just dont forget to open it all the way, probably after about 5-10 minutes, or your gas mileage will go down the drain :-)

I actually prefer the old manual choke because you have so much more control over it and on these older vehicles, the choke can take WAY to long to open resulting in poor mileage and performance. Or on the other side of the coin, they dont always close all the way..
