Steve :

Hello and Welcome to Justanswer, My name is XXXXX XXXXX I am here to try and assist your with your question

Steve :

the new fuel pump is a updated fuel pump and you need to cut the old hold down out of the gas tank or the senders gets caught up on it

Steve :

the new fuel pump does not require the hold down

Steve :

that is in the tank

Customer:

i bought my fuel pump from napa. does it matter?.

Steve :

did it look different than the original fuel pump?

Customer:

no. but how do i cut the old hold down and does need special tool?

Steve :

hi

Steve :

on the new pump is it round and short and click into to the holder

Steve :

or is it long and you have to push it down slightly to get it in

Steve :

does it look like this?

Customer:

the new pump short and round also it has rod with a spring.

Steve :

does it look like the pics?

Steve :

it is in the tank

Customer:

the pics you sent it original pump. it doenst

Steve :

it does not look like that?

Steve :

this is the original pump

Steve :

making sure before cutting the hold down out

Steve :

are you still there?

Customer:

yes

Customer:

the new pump does not come with notch on the bottom to lock it in place.

Steve :

then you need to cut the hold down out

Steve :

they do make a special tool that the dealer has

Steve :

you could use a razor knife and cut the black hold downs out

Steve :

need to remove the tank and be carful to not cut yourself or take the tank to the dealer they can cut it out in a minute

Steve :

I cut these out all day long with the special tool

Customer:

does it really necessary to cut it to make the gauge works?.

Steve :

yes

Steve :

if you want the gauge to work you need to cut it out

Customer:

ok. i'll drop the tank and as soon i done, i'll get back to you.

Steve :

please hit the green accept button so I may get credit thanks

Customer:

i did cut the hold down, but the gauge still stayed 1 1/4 tank.

Steve :

then the gauge must be bad or the pump is not installed the right direction

Steve :

remove the pump and manually move the sender turn the key on and see if the gauge needle moves.

Steve :

If it does move then the pump is not installed right if it does not move needs a gauge

Steve :

make sure the key is off move it then turn the key on. If you do not turn the key off and back on then the test result will be off. You have a slosh module the needle does not move fast it prevent rapid movement for hills
