1997 ford probe: automatic transmission..shifting..i have a solenoid

Customer Question

i have a 1997 ford probe 4cly automatic transmission. the problem is that the transmission feels like is slipping i guess you would say or just down shifting on its own and then going back and forth between 2nd and 3rd gear. i want to say i have a solenoid that maybe going bad, but that just a guess, or possibly a bad transmission filter. any thoughts?

correct the system has a problem and i had to change from chat to posting . the question was have you done the shift quality flash programing on this transmission controller to solve this problem? does the shift also feels harsh, is the engine light on?
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
extremly harsh, since i bought then car when it shift from 1-2 it always felt like someone was slaming the clutch on a 5spd but its an automatic. check engine light comes on to but it has always been on. i think its for a differnt problem. the last time i had it run to see what it was it said this. (this was before this problem got like this.) p1506 manf cntrl veh spd. idle speed control auxiliary inputs. but thats what it was with the computer check from auto zone. that sounds like a speed or idle problem though to me (which the car does have an idle issue that no one has been ever to figure out.) would that have anything to do with ti as well?

hi, the code you describe about the idle speed can affect the transmission shifting only when moving the shifter from park to reverse or drive. not when moving and automatic shifting the problem has to do with the front pump on the transmission read the following TSB technical service bulleting.
