2001 Ford Focus: vacuum leak..EGR valve, EGR flow path clear..solenoid

Resolved Question:

2001 Ford Focus, ZTS (16V) automatic...Error code P0401. Verified no vacuum leak, good engine vacuum, replaced EGR valve, EGR flow path clear, replaced EGR solenoid. What's next? Could it be a signal problem between the PCM and EGR solenoid? How is that tested?

Hello and Welcome to Justanswer,

My name is XXXXX XXXXX I am here to try and assist your with your question.

In 99% of all cases the code P0401 is set due to a faulty DPFE (EGR pressure sensor) and in most cases, replacing it will resolve this code. You can find it next to the Brake master cylinder.

Is there a test or process to verify that it is the EGR pressure sensor?
Expert:  Ron replied 7 years ago.
Yes there is, Ford TSB 04-11-01 was released for a streamlined diagnostic procedure and replacement of the sensor. Download TSB here
