I have a 2005 Ford...
I have a 2005 Ford Expedition 5.4L eddie bauer. A couple of months ago had #4 fuel injector replaced under powertrain warranty. Ran great until about 2 days ago when pulling my trailer it basically misfired (blinking engine light) and then went off. I stopped and waited a few minutes then tried again. Same thing happened. I shut off the car and waited about 45 minutes. When I turned the car back on, I was able to drive slowly and then turn around to go back down the hill. I unhitched my trailer and then the car seemed to run much better although the engine light is still on. I took it to the ford dealer and they just told me the codes were pointing to a bad fuel pump. Then he told me that the fuel pump command module was also corroding and should probably be replaced. They said that nothing is covered under the powertrain warranty and that this was not related to the fuel injector issue. SO... TWO QUESTIONS: 1. Could this be related? 2. If not then what if this is a bad module and the fuel pump is fine. How would I know? I cannot waste $1200 to get this fixed right now!

First off I need to know the codes which were stored, then i need to know how they verified the fuel pump was corroded, was the fuel tank removed to look at it?

Customer:

They said that the module was corroded, but the codes did not say anything about the module. The codes only said something about the fuel pump. I will call them and get the codes.

Customer:

I am calling the dealer right now to get the codes.

The fuel pump is called the fuel pump module unless there referring to some other corrosion, did they remove the tank. Make sure to get the code #s like P0401 or P2390 etc....

Codes were P0171, P0174, P0191

Chris (aka- Moose) :

OK the first 2 codes are lean codes and the last code is is for a fuel reail pressure sensor circuit malfunction. Low fuel pressure can cause lean concern which can be from a clogged fuel filter or weak fuel pump. The last code you have is most likely all of your source here I suggest a new fuel rail pressure sensor then a fuel pressure test.

Why would the vehicle seem to run ok then after coming back down the hill? Would pulling the weight (not much 4500 pounds) cause it to happen?

Also, there is a TSB out there 05134.... It has these codes in it....

TSBs are like this 05--13-04, there is no TSB by this number for this vehicle. Are you sure it was not a SSM, if so I will need the vin#. Pulling weight does change the load on the vehicle which will effect the air fuel ratio and make it run odd if not running optimum.

Give me your vin# XXXXX I can see if these codes go to a ford TSB or not, your naming off all kinds of sites which are not affiliated with ford, so whatever numbers they have are not what there posting. I gave you every TSB for your vehicle, as you can see those numbers are not there. You had 3 codes and those messages you found are for multiple code, if you feel those messages are correct then disregard all I have said and do what those TSBs state to do.

Ok. Understand that I am just trying not to get ripped off by the dealer here and replace things that really do not need to be replaced. I am no mechanic by any means. My VIN is 1FMFU18515LA34650. Thanks for the time as well. I did not say that before.

The codes you have are not directing ford to issues any tsbs or ssms that will fix this concern. You need to address the pressure regulator under the hood as your first step. See the oasis report below.
