Engine stumbles and sputters upon acceleration..Runs normal

Customer Question
Engine stumbles and sputters upon...
Engine stumbles and sputters upon accelleration in any gear. Runs normal once higher rpm achieved. If it had a carburator I would say it was the accellerator pump. 1999 Mustang GT 4.6, 5 speed. New coils, plugs, 70 mm throttle body, Trick flow upper plenum 30,000 mi ago. First started missing about 4000 mi ago. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. Gradually getting worse. Been to reliable mech and talked to Ford serv. dept. They can't diagnose it without Check Engine light. Gives no codes.
thanks, XXXXX XXXXX NW Fla.

hi, my name is XXXXX XXXXX you removed the MAF sensor and cleaned the tip yet?

Do you mean Mass Air Sensor in intake snorkle? If so , not sure how.
Ford Mechanic: Tim Mohr, ASE MASTER TECH replied 8 years ago
Yes, mass air flow sensor, if you remove the electrical plug form the sensor, then there are 2 screws that need to be remove, these are tamperproof torx screws, so you will need a tamperproof torx bit to remove them, then the maf sensor comes out, and you can clean the tip with a MAF sensor cleaner that is available at any parts store, this is a common problem and will cause these symptoms, and very rarely does it sset a code,Tim

Have you had this on a scanner and seen what the o2 sensors are reading when it is hesitating?
Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago
Only Hesitates under a load. Have no diagnostic equipment
Ford Mechanic: Tim Mohr, ASE MASTER TECH replied 8 years ago
we need to see if the engine is running lean or rich when this happens, and if its not, then we need to address the ignition system, a scanner is the only way to moniyor the fuel mixture on these,Tim
Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago
How do I do that?
Ford Mechanic: Tim Mohr, ASE MASTER TECH replied 8 years ago
You will need a scanner with data capabilities to see the o2 readings,Tim
Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago
Have no way of donig that. Guess I will have to take it to a mech and have it diagnosed.
Ford Mechanic: Tim Mohr, ASE MASTER TECH replied 8 years ago
Have them check the o2 readings when its acting up, it should be easy to diagnose if they have a scanner,Tim
